Windows 10 Automatic Thumbnail Deletion after Fall Creators Update

I really hate it when from time to time, Windows 10 automatically deletes the thumbnail for my pictures. I have thousands of pictures and all have been cached so that every time i open the folder, the images thumbnails will be instantly load up. After the latest Windows 10 - Fall Creators Update, Windows has add one special setting to automatically clear the cache from time time. I understand the logic behind this as thumbnail cache should be cleared off from time to time and if not removed, it will built up size taking a lot of hard disk space, especially most people nowadays uses SSD hard drives as storage is relatively very small. But i really do hope they can have an option or setting to set ON/OFF for this.

Okay. after the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, there is actually an ON/OFF switch to enable or disable the automatic thumbnail deletion. It is just hidden inside the registry. I suspect they might add this in the near future, but for now refer steps below to edit the registry to switch ON or OFF for this.

Open your Windows Registry Editor. You can either press the START button and straight away type "regedit" which will automatically search for this application OR press START + "R" and type in "regedit" followed by enter.

This will opens up the Windows Registry Editor. Navigate to the registry key below.

You should be able to see two available keys here which is STATEFLAG and AUTORUN. To turn OFF, just simply double click and edit the string to "0".

Restart your computer for changes to take effects. Alternatively, you can also restart the process name "explorer.exe", but i would recommend restart the whole computer which is a better result.

I hope this guide helps anyone out there that have similar issue as mine. There is pros and cons for this, for example if you set it to ON, your images thumbnail might be deleted from time to time and resulting slower load times when viewing your pictures. But, there is an UP side for this whereas system will also deletes thumbnail cache for deleted images as they are not required anymore.

For me personally, i have thousands of pictures and folders stored in my computer, and i really preferred to have all these picture thumbnail cached. I don't mind the slightly extra disk space consumption for this.
