On Saturday, TikTok became inaccessible in the U.S. just before a federal ban on the Chinese-owned short-video platform took effect. The app, which had engaged nearly half of the American population, supported small businesses, and influenced online culture, was cut off from users.
A message displayed on the app read: "A law prohibiting TikTok has been implemented in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you won't be able to use TikTok for now. However, we are encouraged by President Trump's commitment to working with us to find a solution and restore access once he assumes office. Stay tuned for updates."
