MCMC is Engaging in Discussions with Microsoft and LinkedIn Regarding Licensing Matters

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently in talks with Microsoft, the owner of LinkedIn, about the platform's licensing requirements.

He explained that the discussions aim to evaluate whether LinkedIn fulfills the requirements to register for an Application Service Provider (ASP) Class Licence in Malaysia. "LinkedIn reported having over eight million users in Malaysia as of the first quarter of 2025. Following this announcement, the MCMC reached out to Microsoft, the platform's owner," he said during a press conference after launching the Future Health for All (FH4A) Pilot Programme on Saturday.

Regarding X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, Fahmi mentioned that discussions about their licence registration are still ongoing. "For Meta, they are in the final stages, with one document currently in the process of submission," he added. Previously, the Ministry of Communications announced that Telegram had become the third platform, following TikTok and WeChat, to receive ASP licence approval.
